“Support The Arts”

That’s the message sent home with us today by Todd Chandler, Choral Director of the Jackson County High School Chorus; a plea almost. With budget cuts in education, the arts are the first to suffer and some of the young people in the chorus now may see their career aspirations dimmed if public support of the arts diminishes. “Not just our chorus, or our school,” Chandler added, “but support the arts everywhere.”

The performances today, during the last-of-the-season “Friends” Lunch & Learn, were very well received on this rainy day. Lilia Dalton and Wesley Henson started them off with solos, followed by a duet from Phantom of the Opera. The program also included a pop medley by the girl members of the chorus, followed by a hymn sung by the guy members, and ended with a number by the entire group.

It sent us on our way to our afternoon activities with a warm glow – and not just from the excellent soups that were served.

The Friends of the Braselton-West Jackson Library are holding a membership drive with a party at Diane Lemaster’s on Sunday, October 18 (call her: 678-546-3380) and will resume the Lunch & Learn series next January.

BTW . . . ., it’s nice to scoop The Paper and Mainstreet News. The advantage of New Media over the old print media is its immediacy. You can read about today’s program in next week’s papers, or . . . . here it is already!
